An incident in Rome that initially raised questions about possible use of force has taken a turn after new information came to light.
After receiving an anonymous tip claiming a routine bicycle stop escalated into excessive force, TVOTT Hillbilly News began reviewing all available information, including a publicly available video of the incident.
Based on that video, the situation appears different than initially described.
In the footage, the officer can be heard asking the individual for their name. According to what is shown, the individual refuses to provide it. The officer then instructs the individual to get off the bicycle, stating that they are under arrest.
The individual again refuses to comply.
As officers attempt to take the individual into custody, the video appears to show resistance during the arrest, which then leads to officers physically restraining the individual.
At this time, based on the footage reviewed, there is no clear indication of wrongdoing by officers during the arrest process.
This does not mean every question is answered, but it does provide important context that was not included in the original tip.
We believe in showing both sides and updating stories as facts come in — even when it means correcting the narrative.
