According to the Herkimer Police Department, officers responded to Walmart following reports of a possible active incident involving shots fired.


Police say the situation caused alarm and a chaotic response inside the store, leading to an evacuation. Officers quickly located and detained a male individual leaving the area without further incident.

The investigation determined the weapon involved was an imitation pistol not capable of firing live ammunition. Authorities confirmed that no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.


According to official records,  Maeleeke Warner, 19, of Utica was taken into custody and is facing the following charges:

  • Menacing in the 3rd Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree
  • Unlawful Possession of Certain Ammunition Feeding Devices

Police confirmed the situation was resolved safely and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
