NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — What looked like just another bad driver on the road turned into something much bigger once police stepped in.
According to the New Hartford Police Department, an officer observed a white Dodge Stratus driving recklessly on Campion Road near the New Hartford Shopping Center around 12:32 p.m. The vehicle was seen passing other cars on the right and failing to yield to oncoming traffic while turning into the plaza at a high rate of speed.
The officer initiated a traffic stop after the vehicle pulled into a parking space near Olde Kicker Mill.
That’s when things started stacking up.
Police identified the driver as 19-year-old Quincy Williams of Utica. Investigators say Williams only held a learner’s permit and did not have a properly licensed driver in the vehicle to legally supervise him.
Further investigation revealed Williams was already wanted by New York State Police on an outstanding warrant tied to criminal contempt charges.
But he wasn’t the only one.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Dominick Pennicoake of Utica, was also found to have an active warrant for assault charges. He was taken into custody at the scene and later turned over to the Whitesboro Police Department.
Authorities also noted additional concerns during the stop. The vehicle displayed a Minnesota registration tied to a previous owner, and no valid proof of ownership or insurance was immediately available. On top of that, three passengers were seated in the rear of the vehicle, with two not wearing seatbelts.
New York State Police responded to the scene and took custody of Williams in relation to his outstanding warrant.
What started as reckless driving ended with multiple arrests, violations, and a long list of questions about how many warning signs were ignored before the stop ever happened.
As always, all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
