Well now, this one didn’t go the way the suspect probably planned.
Authorities in New Hartford, New York say a bank robbery at NBT Bank on Seneca Turnpike kicked off around 9:45 a.m. on March 4, when a man walked in, handed a teller a note, and claimed he was armed while demanding cash.
According to investigators, the suspect made off with several thousand dollars before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
But here’s where things turned real quick.
Instead of disappearing into thin air, detectives got to work immediately—collecting evidence, talking to witnesses, and piecing together who they were dealing with. Within hours, police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Shane Stevens of North Brookfield.
Law enforcement tracked him to a location in Utica on Schuyler Street, where New Hartford Police teamed up with Utica Police and took him into custody without incident.
Stevens is now facing third-degree robbery charges, a felony under New York law, and was transported to the Oneida County Jail pending arraignment.
The good news?
👉 Nobody inside the bank was hurt.
👉 No shots were fired.
👉 And police wrapped this one up fast.
Now let’s be real for a second—walking into a bank, passing a note saying you’ve got a gun, and thinking you’re just gonna ride off into the sunset? That ain’t how it works anymore. Cameras, witnesses, coordinated police work… you’re getting caught nine times outta ten.
Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing, and as always, the suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
