GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. — Folks, this one’ll make you think twice before swiping that card.

Police in Gloversville are investigating after what appears to be a card skimming device was discovered inside the Dollar Tree located at 169 North Main Street.

According to authorities, officers responded on March 3, 2026, after reports of a suspicious device attached to a checkout terminal. What they found were components believed to be part of a skimmer — a tool criminals use to secretly steal your debit or credit card information while you’re just trying to buy everyday items.

Let’s be real here — you walk in for a $1.25 item, not to have your bank account drained.

Police say these devices can collect sensitive card data without customers even realizing it, making them especially dangerous.

Right now, investigators are still trying to figure out:

  • How long the device was there
  • Whether any customer data was actually stolen
  • Who may be responsible

The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from New York State Police.

🚨 What Police Are Telling You To Do

If you shopped at that location and used a card, don’t ignore this:

  • Check your bank and credit card statements immediately
  • Watch for unauthorized charges
  • Report anything suspicious to police

Anyone who notices suspicious activity is urged to contact Detective C. Zink with the Gloversville Police Department.

🔎 Wider Check Across the City

After the discovery, officers didn’t just stop there — they went out and inspected multiple other stores and terminals across Gloversville to make sure this wasn’t part of a larger setup. So far, no additional devices have been confirmed.
