What started as a domestic call turned into something a whole lot more serious Monday evening in Broadalbin.
According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a home after reports of a domestic violence situation involving a firearm. When officers arrived, they learned shots had allegedly already been fired inside the residence while another person was still inside.
That’s the kind of situation that can go bad in seconds.
The person inside the home was able to get out safely, but the suspect stayed inside, refusing to come out. Authorities made contact by phone, and during that time, the suspect allegedly made threats toward law enforcement.
At that point, this wasn’t just a call anymore—it became a full-scale standoff.
A Fulton County Sheriff’s Office hostage negotiator was called to the scene, working to talk the man out peacefully. At the same time, a drone unit was deployed to track movement inside the home and give officers eyes where they couldn’t safely go.
Law enforcement says multiple rounds were fired inside the residence during the incident.
After continued negotiations, the situation finally cooled down. The suspect voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.
In total, the situation lasted around two and a half hours and involved multiple agencies, including New York State Police, deputies, and investigators.
The suspect now faces several charges, including felony reckless endangerment, along with multiple weapon-related charges, obstruction, and menacing.
Despite how serious things got, no injuries were reported.
That’s the part people should pay attention to. Because this easily could’ve ended a whole different way.
