UTICA, NY — Folks across the Mohawk Valley got a real scare this week after a social media threat mentioning a Utica school started spreading like wildfire online.
According to Utica Police and school officials, the situation began on March 17, 2026, when a Snapchat video referencing Donovan Middle School caught the attention of authorities.
Now let’s be real here — when you hear “school threat,” people don’t sit around calmly sipping coffee. Parents panic, kids get scared, and the whole community goes on edge.
Police moved fast.
Investigators tracked down the individuals involved, conducted interviews, and even visited homes to determine if there was any real danger.
But here’s the key part…
👉 Police say the threat was NOT real and NOT directed at the school itself.
Instead, authorities say the situation stemmed from a personal dispute between two groups, and the video was aimed at each other — not students or staff at the school.
Still, officials didn’t take chances.
🚔 Increased police presence was put in place at Donovan Middle School
📢 Community organizations were brought in to calm tensions
🕵️ Investigation is ongoing, and charges are still possible
Even though it turned out to be a false alarm, law enforcement made one thing clear:
👉 Every threat is taken seriously — no matter where it comes from.
And honestly, they should.
Because in today’s world, all it takes is one post, one video, one rumor… and suddenly an entire city is holding its breath.
